Overview

CU Building Group is a Perth-based construction and property development company offering end-to-end building solutions, including design, development, and construction. The client required a completely custom WordPress website to showcase multiple business divisions, highlight services and projects, and strengthen their online brand presence in a competitive Australian construction market.

Some of the key challenges included

  • Converting a detailed Figma design into clean, optimized HTML while maintaining pixel-perfect UI/UX

  • Developing a fully custom WordPress theme tailored specifically for real estate listings and content-heavy pages

  • Managing multiple pages with extensive content, ensuring proper structure and smooth navigation

  • Improving website performance and Core Web Vitals through optimized code and lightweight assets

  • Building SEO foundations from scratch, as the website had DA/DR at 0, with no backlink profile

At the same time, it was crucial to implement on-page and off-page SEO strategies without affecting website usability, while steadily increasing search visibility and authority in a competitive real estate niche.

Through strategic development and SEO execution, we successfully transformed the website into a fast, scalable, and search-optimized real estate platform, increasing its Domain Authority and Domain Rating from 0 to 20 through quality backlinks and technical SEO improvements.

The Goal

The goal was to create a modern, professional, and fully responsive WordPress website that clearly showcases CU Building Group’s multiple business divisions, services, and projects. The website needed to strengthen brand presence, improve user engagement, and provide an easy-to-manage backend for the client to update content effortlessly.

I identified the following goals for the new website:

  • Redesign the website with a modern, professional look.
  • Highlight all services and business divisions clearly.
  • Showcase completed projects to build credibility.
  • Provide a responsive and fast-loading website for all devices.
  • Enable easy content management with WordPress and ACF.
  • Improve lead generation with clear calls-to-action.
  • Optimise for SEO to increase search visibility in Australia.

Research

To define the direction for CU Building Group’s new website, I researched multiple construction and property development websites in Australia. I analysed competitors to understand design trends, content strategies, project showcases, and lead generation methods.

This research helped identify what works in the industry, what elements to include for credibility and user engagement, and what to avoid to ensure a modern and professional web presence.

Target Audience

The target audience for CU Building Group’s website includes property buyers, investors, and homeowners in Western Australia who are looking for comprehensive design and construction services. This also includes clients seeking multi-division property solutions, from design and development to construction and project management.

Defining this audience helped shape the website’s content, layout, and calls-to-action, ensuring the messaging is clear, engaging, and builds trust with potential clients.

Needs & Requirements:

CU Building Group needed a website that could professionally represent their multi-division construction and property services while being easy to manage and scalable for future growth.

  • Modern, professional, and visually appealing design reflecting the brand.
  • Clear presentation of multiple business divisions and services.
  • Showcase completed projects to build credibility with potential clients.
  • Fully responsive and fast-loading across all devices.
  • Custom WordPress CMS with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) for easy content management.
  • Optimised for SEO and lead generation with clear calls-to-action.
  • Scalable architecture for future content and business expansion.

These requirements guided every stage of the website’s design and development.

The Solution:

I recommended building a completely new WordPress website from scratch with a custom design tailored to CU Building Group’s multi-division structure. The solution focused on presenting services clearly, showcasing projects, and strengthening the brand’s online presence while providing an easy-to-manage backend.

The website was designed to:

  • Highlight all business divisions and services in a clear and professional layout.
  • Showcase completed projects to build credibility with potential clients.
  • Provide a modern, responsive design for optimal user experience across devices.
  • Enable easy content management with WordPress and Advanced Custom Fields (ACF).
  • Incorporate strong calls-to-action to generate leads and client enquiries.
  • Ensure scalability for future growth and additional content.
  • Optimise for SEO to improve visibility in the Australian construction market.

Design

After finalizing client requirements, goals, and target audience, I started working on the website design. The focus was on creating a modern, clean, and professional layout that clearly highlights CU Building Group’s services, projects, and multiple business divisions while ensuring a seamless user experience.

Focus on lead generation and conversion rate

The primary focus of the content was to clearly showcase CU Building Group’s multi-division services, completed projects, and expertise in construction and property development. I structured content to guide visitors through each service, highlight major projects, and include strong calls-to-action to encourage enquiries and client engagement.

Content was designed to:

  • Present services in a clear, easy-to-understand format for potential clients.
  • Highlight completed projects to build trust and credibility.
  • Provide concise information for each business division.
  • Encourage visitors to contact CU Building Group via strategically placed call-to-action buttons and enquiry forms.
  • Support SEO goals with keyword-rich, relevant content.

Wireframes

I started the design process by creating wireframes for the website. These wireframes helped validate the layout of the homepage, services pages, project showcases, and enquiry forms without focusing on colors or typography. It ensured that the structure was clear, user-friendly, and aligned with CU Building Group’s goal of presenting multiple business divisions and projects effectively.

Development

The CU Building Group website was developed on WordPress with a custom theme built from scratch. Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) were used to make content management easy for the client, allowing updates to projects, services, and company divisions without technical knowledge. Special attention was given to responsive design, site speed, and a clean backend to ensure smooth ongoing maintenance and scalability for future growth.

Page Speed Optimization & W3C Validation

The website was optimized for fast loading times across all devices, ensuring a smooth browsing experience for visitors. W3C validation and clean coding standards were implemented to maintain technical accuracy and enhance overall website performance.

SEO Optimization & Schema Markup

The website was fully optimized for search engines with on-page SEO, meta tags, and relevant keyword-focused content. Schema markup was implemented to enhance search visibility, improve rich snippet appearance, and make the website more discoverable for clients searching for construction and property services in Australia.

WordPress Security & Coding Standards

The website was developed following WordPress coding standards with secure, clean, and maintainable code. Security best practices were implemented to protect the site from vulnerabilities, ensuring long-term reliability and safe user interactions.

Website Quality & On-Page SEO

Each page was carefully crafted to maintain high-quality design and content standards. On-page SEO techniques, including optimized headings, meta descriptions, and internal linking, were applied to enhance search engine rankings and improve user engagement across the site.

That's not all — special attention was given to responsive design, clean code, fast loading times, secure backend, and SEO-friendly structure. Every detail was carefully implemented to ensure the website performs flawlessly and provides an excellent user experience. Click here to see the full development checklist.
